When you read the Shining…

When someone mentions The Shining I, like google, think of Jack Nicholson in the 1980 movie. Yes I knew it was a book, but it was just one of those things that I never really bothered reading. Then on a whim, which had nothing to do with seeing the price at 1.99 for Kindle (I imagine as a promo for the sequel Dr. Sleep), I decided to check out the original story and there’s a couple things that occurred to me.

  1. I’m not a Stephan King devotee or “true fan.” I haven’t read all of the Dark Tower series or anything like that. With that said, does King like magical black people? But it appears I’m ten years late with this observation.
  2. In most of the developed world this story couldn’t happen. If this story was set in Korea it would have to take place in a sauna or Dokdo island. Then again there are plenty of movies set in hotels, even in Korea.
